Pretrial Services Agency

The Pretrial Services Agency gathers and provides information about all arrestees--local and federal--charged with criminal offenses in the District of Columbia. The agency provides judicial officers with verified information for bail setting purposes. In addition, the agency monitors defendants’ compliance with their conditions of release, notifies them of future court dates, and assists them with court appearance matters.

As part of the National Capital Revitalization and Self-Government Improvement Act of 1997 (“the Revitalization Act”), the Pretrial Services Agency became an independent agency within the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA).  The agency's autonomy was retained to ensure clear distinction between clients in a pretrial status and those who have been processed through the judiciary system.
