CITY'S CONGREGATIONS REACH OUT TO OFFENDERS
AT RE-ENTRY WORSHIP SERVICES
January 14, 2002
At churches, mosques, and temples throughout the District of Columbia, congregations launched a ministry of outreach and assistance to offenders returning from prison. President Bush expressed his support for Re-Entry Sunday, saying, "I commend the leaders of the District's religious institutions for your commitment to reach out selflessly to your neighbors in need."
Re-Entry Services were held at more than 30 places of worship. The services were organized by the Faith Community Partnership between the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA) and District of Columbia clergy.
Because January is National Mentoring
Month, the recruitment of volunteers to serve as mentors for returning offenders is the initial focus of the Faith Community Partnership. CSOSA will host an orientation session for prospective mentors on February 7, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. at the
Israel Baptist Church, 1251 Saratoga Avenue NE.
The CSOSA/Faith Community Partnership invites all interested individuals and organizations to participate in the mentoring initiative. Please use the links below to read more about this important initiative, register for the orientation session or request more information.
